Multiple Teachers Managing a Google Classroom

Invite teachers to a class

You can invite additional teachers to join your class to help coordinate class activities. Here are a few class permissions to be aware of:
  • Only the primary teacher can delete a class.
  • The primary teacher cannot unenroll or be removed from a class.
  • Additional teachers cannot be muted in a class.
  • The primary teacher and additional teachers are notified of students’ private comments if email notifications are on. Students can send an email if they want to communicate directly with a specific teacher.
  • The primary teacher owns all class materials, including Google Drive assignment folders, submitted assignments, and templates. The primary teacher’s class and assignment folders are shared with additional teachers in Drive. If the primary teacher changes their folder structure, additional teachers might lose access to student work submitted before the additional teachers feature launched.
  • Materials that additional teachers add to assignments or posts are shared and available in the primary teacher’s class and assignment folders.
Note: Currently, you can only invite teachers to a class using the web version of Classroom. However, both the primary teacher and any additional teachers can interact with their classes on the mobile app.
  1. Sign in to Classroom at classroom.google.com.
  2. Click the class you want to add teachers to.
  3. At the top of the class stream, click About.
  4. Click Invite Teacher.
    Invite teachers
  5. Do one of the following:
    1. Check the box next to the teacher you want to invite.
    2. Check the Select all box to invite all the teachers listed.
  6. (Optional) To see other contact lists, click My contacts. You can also search for people by name.
  7. (Optional) Check the box next to any additional teacher you want to invite and click Next.
  8. Click Invite

How to Integrate Live Tweets Into Your Presentation

From Edudemic.com -

"Outside of the classroom, Twitter is huge, with 284 million users logging in each month from around the globe. Each one of those users follows and tweets 140-character messages on a regular basis. But can—and should—this real-time social media be used during a classroom presentation? More teachers are beginning to incorporate Twitter into their lesson plans. Educators who use Twitter say it increases classroom interaction and keeps students tuned in."

Boomerang for Gmail

Send an email later

With Boomerang, you can write an email now and schedule it to be sent automatically at the perfect time. Just write the messages as you normally would, then click the Send Later button. Use our handy calendar picker or our text box that understands language like "next Monday" to tell Boomerang when to send your message. We'll take it from there.

Remind you if you don’t hear back

There are times you need to make sure you follow up within a specific time frame after sending a message. You can select to only be reminded if nobody replies, or regardless. This way you won't let messages slip through the crack and will never forget to follow up with people.

The best follow up reminders

Want a cleaner inbox, but don't want to lose track of important messages? Use Boomerang to take messages out of your inbox until you actually need them. Just click the Boomerang button when you have an email open, and choose when you need it again. Boomerang will archive your message. At the time you choose, we'll bring it back to your inbox, marked unread, starred or even at the top of your message list.

For mobile and Android!

Have you ever been out at dinner and remembered that you need to do something when you get to the office tomorrow morning? Now you can write an email while you're on the go, and have it arrive exactly when you need to be reminded - like 8AM the next morning.

50 Essential EdTech Tools By Category

From Teachthought.com

"Technology and education are pretty intertwined these days and nearly every teacher has a few favorite tech tools that make doing his or her job and connecting with students a little bit easier and more fun for all involved. Yet as with anything related to technology, new tools are hitting the market constantly and older ones rising to prominence, broadening their scope, or just adding new features that make them better matches for education, which can make it hard to keep up with the newest and most useful tools even for the most tech-savvy teachers.

Here, we’ve compiled a list of some of the tech tools, including some that are becoming increasingly popular and widely used, that should be part of any teacher’s tech tool arsenal this year, whether for their own personal use or as educational aids in the classroom.

2. Learning Content

81 ways to use Google Forms with your students

"Google Apps is one of the powerful digital toolkit for teachers. It is packed with all kinds of apps you can use both  in your teaching and for your professional growth . Think about services such as Gmail, Google Docs, Presentations, Forms, Google Calendar, Google Education, and the list goes on and on. Most of these tools are free and are part and parcel of our digital being. I am personally a huge fan of Google services and I use almost all of them including Google Code.I have been writing a lot of tutorials on each of these tools and I will still keep you updated about any new releases in this regard. Just keep in mind that I am just a teacher like you, I have no affiliation with Google and I am not paid to write about its services here, the only things that drives me to cover Google services in my posts are their practical productivity and relevance, their powerful free features, their awesome user experience,  and the level of security they provide its users." TeacherTube

After beta testing for almost two months, TeacherTube officially launched on March 6, 2007. Our goal is to provide an online community for sharing instructional videos. We seek to fill a need for a more educationally focused, safe venue for teachers, schools, and home learners. It is a site to provide anytime, anywhere professional development with teachers teaching teachers. As well, it is a site where teachers can post videos designed for students to view in order to learn a concept or skill.

TeacherTube was the idea of Adam and Jason Smith, a 14-year veteran educator. Jason has been a teacher, coach, campus administrator and district administrator in public schools. He asked the question, "Why can't teachers, students, and schools utilize the power of the read/write web for learning?" To overcome barriers, he decided to just create a site and get started trying to help. He turned to his brother, Adam, who is a younger, digital native, with technical skills. Adam used his skills to develop the site and found a web host. Soon, Jason's wife, Jodie, joined the team to start populating the site with videos and help improve the communication. She too has 14 years of experience in education as a classroom teacher, campus technology integrator, and district curriculum coordinator.

Most importantly, TeacherTube community members are a major part of the evolution of the site. Members are encouraged to not only upload educationally relevant videos, but also to make constructive comments and use the rating system to show appreciation for videos of value to one as an educator or learner. Users also have the ability to preserve the integrity of the site by flagging inappropriate videos. TeacherTube staff review flagged sites and will remove any inappropriate posts. With more collegial commentary and discussion through messaging and responses, the quality of this resource will only increase.

AllCast app for screen-mirroring

AllCast finally lands on iOS, opens up a bevy of screen-mirroring options

The AirPlay/Apple TV stranglehold on iOS devices has finally been loosened. The popular media streaming app, AllCast, debuted in the Apple App Store today, allowing iPhone and iPad users to take advantage of one of the easiest ways to transmit media from iOS devices to the TV.
The AllCast app became available for Android a year ago in December, so it’s been a long wait for the Apple faithful. The iOS version of AllCast does not offer as many media options as its older Android counterpart, however it does support streaming from Dropbox, Google+, Google Drive and Instagram. Before AllCast, there was no single app that allowed iOS devices to stream media from their devices and cloud storage accounts to devices outside the Apple eco-system like Rokus, Amazon’s Fire TV, Xbox, and Chromecast. Re-purpose Your Old Laptop to Make Your Own ChromeBook

1) Now, let’s go to Built by Hexxeh to download the latest ChromiumOS Vanilla build. The download size is around 300MB, and it’s wrapped up in a ZIP format.

2) Once you have it downloaded, extract the IMAGE file from the zip file to a convenient location, i.e. your download folder.

3) To load it up to the USB drive (must be minimum of 4GB), you will need a tool called Windows Image Writer, which is a free portable tool that writes IMG file directly to a USB drive and makes it bootable as well. Make sure back up your USB drive first, as it will be reformatted to a format Windows doesn't recognize.

Before you download, BE AWARE of a few things. These builds:
Are totally unofficial Chromium OS builds and do not represent the full Chrome OS experience.
Are offered without any support whatsoever, you use them at your own risk.
Do NOT automatically update, you'll need to download a new build regularly if you wish to update.
Do NOT include Flash, Java or the Google Voice/Video plugin for licensing reasons.
May simply not boot on your hardware: not all configurations work!

TED-ED

TED-Ed
TED-Ed’s commitment to creating lessons worth sharing is an extension of TED’s mission of spreading great ideas. Within TED-Ed’s growing library of lessons, you will find carefully curated educational videos, many of which represent collaborations between talented educators and animators nominated through the TED-Ed platform. This platform also allows users to take any useful educational video, not just TED’s, and easily create a customized lesson around the video. Users can then distribute TED-Ed lessons, publicly or privately, and track their impact on the world, a class, or an individual student. This platform is also the home to TED-Ed Clubs – an exciting new program that aims to stimulate and celebrate the best ideas of students around the world.

TED-Ed Lessons
There are two types of TED-Ed lessons. The first, TED-Ed’s award-winning original lessons, represent collaborations between expert educators, screenwriters and animators. Each collaboration aims to capture and amplify a great lesson idea suggested by the TED community. The second type of TED-Ed lesson can be created by any website visitor, and involves adding questions, discussion topics and other supplementary materials to any educational video on YouTube. Both types of TED-Ed lessons are used regularly – in classrooms and homes – to introduce new topics to learners in an exciting, curiosity-inspiring way.
